How Long Should Your Podcast Be?

How long should my podcast be?

If you’re just starting out, you might be wondering about the best runtime for your podcast.

Should it be an hour?

20 minutes?

30 minutes?

And the answer is…there’s no right answer for that.

The great thing about podcasting is that there are no rules! You don’t have to follow a broadcast schedule. You don’t have the FCC to worry about and you don’t have to conform to any set format.

And that’s what makes it great!

We’ve seen shows that are two hours, 30 minutes, five minutes, and they’re able to grow their podcast following.

So, how long should your podcast be?

Whatever works for you and your listener.

How do you know if it’s too long?

For starters, you should always listen back to your own podcast.

If you’re listening to your podcast and you think, “I feel like I rambled on too much. I think I went on too long.

It’s probably too long.

But to be sure, ask your friends and listeners. Find out what works for you and your audience.

Just make sure you’re always listening back to your own podcast. That’s important.

Some people don’t like to listen to their own podcasts because they don’t like the sound of their voice.

Sports teams watch the playback from the week before. They watch the team that they’re about to play. That’s how they prepare and that’s how they get better.

And that’s what you gotta do with your podcast.

Most of the time, when people are first starting out, they stress about the details.

What really matters is your overall content. Experiment with your format.

Look at podcasting as an art form. Play around with that art form. You don’t have to use the same colors as every artist.

Do what works for you and make it your own.
